Hi there fellow Horrockses! We assume that you must be "one of us" to have bothered to look this far. Around Bury, Burnley, Manchester, Rochdale etc. in the county of Lancashire in the UK, the "Horrocks" surname is frequently encountered. Move away from Lancashire, however, and the name suddenly becomes "unusual". We live near Bristol (only 160 miles from Lancashire) and our local phone book has only a handful of entries compared with several pages in my native county. As a result of this site we have found Horrockses all over the world; many who thought they were the only family on the planet with this strange surname. Almost certainly we are all related; if not by blood then by an ancestoral geographical link to a small area of the UK. See speculation about the origin of the name. One thing for sure .... we seem to be a friendly bunch! This site has already re-united lost relatives. This alone makes the effort worthwhile. It has also helped itinerant Horrockses find ready-made contacts (and, we hope, new friends) in all parts of the world. We hope that you find the site interesting. If you have any ideas for its development, then please e-mail us or use the suggestion page. Also we would love to know if this site has helped you in some way (perhaps helped you find a long-lost or unknown relative). Kind Regards to you all |
